Memorial Hall | Charlestown
Working with North Bennet Street School to restore of the front facade to the building’s form in the 1880s. Scope includes removal of deteriorated shingles, installation of pent-roof shingles, reinstating clapboards, fabricating plank frames, and installing windows.
History
Memorial Hall (Abraham Lincoln Post #11, G.A.R.) was initially built in 1791 as a home for Samuel Dexter (1761-1816), an attorney and Congressman. In 1887 the residence was sold to the Abraham Lincoln Post #11, and it was at this time the home was renovated to construct a meeting hall and ballroom on the second story. The work involved cutting the original hipped framed roof free from the building and raising it 6’3”.

The window openings below were boarded up with fiberglass insulation and aluminum track windows. We fabricated to the original 1880s plank frames (mortise and tenoned) with bronze weather stripping.

In process! Windows are next to be installed.
