Hello,

I’m Sophie; a sculptor, woodworker, and preservation carpenter based in Boston, Ma.

I bring a deep curiosity for how historic architecture is not irrelevant by nature of it being oriented in the past, but in fact integral to giving both context and inspiration to contemporary design.

After graduating with a B.A. in Studio Art & Design, I worked for a college art program in Italy. Upon returning to the States I worked as a stone mason before completing two years of studies in preservation carpentry at the North Bennet Street School. Since then, I have worked in the field, individually and in collaboration with Owlsworth Conservation, MLB Restorations, and Matt Diana Housewright. In addition to my field work, I also teach undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education courses: Architectural Design/Build, Sculptural Architecture, Historic Timber Framing, Preservation Carpentry Intensive, 3D Art & Design, Woodcarving, and Sculpture.

I’m interested in learning from historic structures, preserving their presence, and sensitively adapting them to contemporary life in such a way that leads to a work that speaks truth to the embodied, connective human experience.

When I’m not carving or making sculptures, I enjoy making bread, exploring the forest, and inhabiting every and any art museum I can find.
